Experience the beautiful character of Uruguay’s capital city on the River Plate in this full day tour.
What to Expect
Montevideo, the capital of the Republic of Uruguay, has more than two and a half centuries of existence. It is also one of the only continental capitals with a ring of beaches incorporated into the urban landscape.
This singular feature gives the city´s appearance a special character, and serves as a "purifying lung." The city maintains historic testimonies both in its old and new sectors.
Cultural life in Montevideo is intense and offers a great deal of variety. However, it is also home to many first-class singers and musicians of all styles. It also has both an official and independent theater circuit with shows year-round.
One of the best-known theaters is the Solís Theater, which was recently restored and is one of the very first theaters in Latin America.
In the old part of town, you will find a large number of cultural centers and museums that feature new painting and photography expositions at all times.
You will also be able to admire the numerous Candombe (an African-derived rhythm that has been an important part of Uruguayan culture for over 200 years) and Carnival shows in the street. Carnival shows are in February and the Candombe are year-round.
