What to Expect
On this 4-hour tour of Budapest’s culinary scene, we will take you through all the main food delights that the city has to offer. You will get to understand why Hungarian gastronomy is among the best in the world!

The tour goes through 4 stages of “picks and bites,” and lets you taste as many of the Hungarian specialties as you can manage. You will be led by an enthusiastic foodie guide who will take you to some famous, as well as hidden, city gems.

You will visit Central Market Hall to taste the local lángos drink, scones with garlic and sour cream, and stuffed cabbage, as well as winter salami and sweet yellow-green fresh paprika. You will discover why Hungarians are so in love with pickles, made out of every possible vegetable, and what zsömle or kifli – the basic local sandwich bread types - look and taste like.

Go to the famous Ruin Bar in the Jewish district to try Unicum and Pálinka, washed down with a fröccs (a type of spritzer), beer or grape-based soft drink. Taste surprising local snacks, such as zsíroskenyér (bread and dripping) with paprika or with a spicy cottage cheese cream.

Hungarians are dedicated carnivores, from top executives to brick-layers, and you will go to a “Hentes” (butcher) where they all eat standing up, to sample grilled sausage or the Hungarian specialty of black-pudding with crispy white bread, mustard and pickles.

We will finish the day with either a typical cake in a classic café on Andrássy Avenue or with a kosher cake in a famous patisserie of the Jewish district, washed down with a coffee or tea.

These culinary delights are just a selection of what you can eat during this trip, as you explore the interesting cultural and culinary diversity of Budapest.
