Day 4 - Bodrum City Tour (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)
Following breakfast, you will leave at 09:30h for the Bodrum City Tour. Visit the impressive castle of St. Peter, symbol of Bodrum. This crusader castle was built by the knights of St. John between 1402 and 1409 and today, the castle’s rooms are now a museum where visitors are greeted with an extensive display of cultural artefacts ranging from the Bronze Age to the Roman and Byzantine period. The castle also happens to house the largest underwater, archaeological museum in Turkey - one of the few of its kind in the world. The renovated structure of a shipwreck in the museum is in itself worth a visit. After a tour of the castle, you will have the chance of visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Mausoleum.
The Mausoleum, King Mausolus' tomb, is a truly spectacular monument of great dimensions and grand architecture. Today, you can see the cleared platform and some of the artefacts from the Mausoleum. Some of the stones were used for the construction of the castle and some parts of the tomb are also exhibited at the British Museum in London.
After the Mausoleum tour, we depart for the Amphitheatre which is located on a hillside overlooking Bodrum. Built in the time of Mausolus, this impressive piece of architecture is one of the very few surviving pre-Hellenistic theatres in Asia Minor, and incidentally one of the oldest.
