Juyong Pass ranks as the first of the three impregnable passes along the Great Wall (the other two are Jiayuguan and Shanhaiguan Pass). Beside the ancient walls, many old buildings like towers and temples can be seen there.
What to Expect
For this half-day private Juyongguan Great Wall hiking tour, the starting time will be at 8:00 am or 1:00 pm and ending at 1:00 pm or 6:00 pm. Please indicate your preferred starting time while make the booking.
The local tour guide and driver will pick you up from your downtown Beijing hotel at the appointed time. It takes around an hour driving from your downtown Beijing hotel to Juyongguan Great Wall which is 60 kilometers away and the nearest Great Wall section from the city proper. Situated in a valley surrounded by mountains on two sides, Juyongguan has long been a military stronghold. It was first built in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 – 476 BC) and Warring States Period (476 – 221 BC) by Yan State as a fortification. The extant pass was built in the Ming Dynasty to protect the northern borders from the Mongol invasions.
After climbing the Juyongguan Great Wall for 2 hours, the tour guide and driver will transfer you back to downtown Beijing and drop you off at your hotel.
