What to Expect
This full-day Beijing tour gets to the heart of the Chinese capital by combining 3 of its top cultural attractions with a visit to the people who make the city work; the locals! During the day you will also get time for some souvenir shopping and stop off at a Tea house for a tea ceremony.
Your tour starts at the Capital Museum, 1 of the best places to acquaint yourself with the history and culture of Beijing. The museum is divided into two halls, each with 6 floors of fascinating exhibits.
Learn the history of ancient Beijing and its thousands of years of customs, while touring the extraordinary collections of artifacts, including statues, historic jade ornaments, bronze vessels and much more.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you will visit the magnificent gardens of Prince Gong's Mansion, Beijing's largest and the best preserved royal mansion of the Qing Dynasty.
You will tour the streets of old Beijing by rickshaw, also known as a pedicab. This portion of the tour allows you to get a taste of daily life in the city as your driver pedals through the narrow and ancient streets, known as hutongs.
You will stop to visit the home of a Chinese family and climb to the top of an old drum tower for a bird’s eye view of the neighborhood and city beyond.
You will then visit the scenic Summer Palace. Used by emperors for eight centuries, the Empress Dowager Cixi had the palace renovated in the 19th century, adding the manmade lake visitors see today. Stroll through one of Beijing's favorite parks before the end of the tour and your hotel drop-off.
