Visit Saint Nicholas Basilica, renowned for its Romanesque architecture. The Basilica served as the model for many other cathedrals in the region. Its 3-nave interior features some exceptional examples of medieval architecture, including the tabernacle that dates from the 12th century, and the 17th-century pulpit.
Walk along narrow alleyways until you reach the Bari Cathedral. Built in the 12th century, its crypt is a triumph of Baroque art. You’ll also visit the imposing Swabian Castle, begun by Roger II and completed by Frederick II in 1233.
A short walk through the old town will take you to Piazza Mercantile and Piazza Ferrarese, the oldest commercial and historical centers in Bari. There will be time to shop or sample some of the traditional food and drink before returning to your cruise ship.
