The Montserrat Mountains, located 35 minutes away from Barcelona, are, doubtlessly, the most representative of Catalonia for they bring together unique beauty and important cultural and spiritual aspects emblematic to Catalonia.
What to Expect
The first thing to do on this tour is to visit the monastery when the atmosphere is still quiet. Inside there is the famous image of the black virgin. The hike starts from the monastery along a road which will offer you stunning aerial views. The next stop is some of the old chapels used by monks for spiritual retirement.
Along the trail, it's likely to see wild goats on the steep crags. The route continues to Sant Jeroni, which, at 1.224m, is Montserrat’s highest point and will give you a 360º view of the whole massif. Other trail with different views will be used to return to the monastery.
