Get away from hectic Bangkok for a day and experience rural life in Thailand. On this full-day excursion you’ll visit a local temple and an orchid farm, cruise along a canal, ride through an orchard in an open truck, and enjoy a delicious Thai lunch!
What to Expect
Your first stop on this adventure in rural Thailand is an orchid farm, where thousands of orchids are raised for the export market. If you’d like to buy some orchids, you’ll find better prices here than in the city!
You’ll see orchards on both sides of the canal, in this area known as the fruit belt, where many different types of fruit are grown.
Many orchards specialize in organic fruit and you’ll also see fields where organic rice is grown. Take a ride through an orchard on a Thai-style tractor and afterwards enjoy a tasting of whatever fruit is in season.
Enjoy lunch at a riverside restaurant with the locals and taste a special dish called khao tang na tang or crusty rice with shrimp dip. This dish is produced in the restaurant’s unique solar cell oven. It’s worth the trip to Mahasawat just to see this being made and enjoy the taste of this excellent snack.
Your next stop is the Wat Suwannaram pier, where you’ll board a boat for a trip on Mahasawat Canal. The community organizes agro-tourism excursions by long-tailed boats that take visitors to a lotus field, orchid farm, and fruit orchards.
From the pier beside the Suwannaram Temple, a 6-seater boat will take you on a ride along the canal. These boats are safe, and are equipped with life jackets, as well as sunshades for your comfort. As you cruise along the canal you’ll see huge fishing nets suspended above the water and get a unique perspective of the local lifestyle.
