From Bangkok, drive towards the western region of Thailand and hop on your bike for a slow ride along small country roads with very little traffic. The paved and dirt roads will take you along irrigation canals, through vibrant green rice paddies and fields of sugar cane and maize. The day’s destination is Nong Khao village, where you’ll take a break from riding and learn more about rice cultivation. Try your hand at pounding some rice before heading to your riverside hotel.
Start your day with a train ride on the infamous death railway, built by prisoners of war during WWII, with stunning scenery along the way. After a riverside lunch, cycle along quiet back roads to Prasat Mueang Singh, a historical park dating back to the 13th century, and featuring ruins of Bayon-style temples built by the Khmer kingdom.
Walk around the nearby war cemetery and visit the local War Museum, before boarding a local train for a stunning ride on the Death Railway. Then, enjoy a gentle cycle from the Kraset caves to the ruins of Wat Prasat Muang Sing.
Begin the day with a ride through several picturesque fields, featuring several kinds of vegetable and herb crops. Stop to enjoy the scenery of valleys and impressive limestone cliffs, and smell the basil and lemongrass used in so many Thai dishes. Then have lunch by the river before boarding a long-tail boat and heading to your accommodation at raft bungalows on the river Kwai Noi.
Today's ride is a mixture of dirt single tracks and smooth tarmac roads. Start the day with a float down river before hopping on your bike for more fabulous riding. Admire the amazing diversity of plants that grow in this area, from rice fields to rubber trees. In the afternoon, visit Hellfire Pass and learn how POWs were forced to cut a pass through rock for the railway before heading to your overnight accommodation at a safari-style camp.
End this memorable trip by spending a day with elephants at a sanctuary for sick, old, and former street elephants. Here you'll help care, feed and bathe the elephants, giving you a great chance to get up close with these amazing and gentle animals.
