North of Bangkok, along the banks of the Chao Phraya, one can find Nonthaburi and the tiny island of Koh Kret. With a local community that has lived here from generation to generation, this region is perfect for a relaxing cycling tour.
What to Expect
At around 08:00, your guide and driver will warmly welcome you at your hotel lobby. From here, drive in the northern direction (around 25 kilometers) in the direction of Nonthaburi, just outside of Bangkok, where you will get your bikes. Adjust them to the right size and off you go on an easy, relaxing bike ride through unseen Thailand.
The cycling path is along the banks of the Chao Phraya River; which is the only way to really see numerous small villages, temples, fruit orchards, and flower plantations that have not been visited by tourists as well as the always very friendly Thai locals.
Cycle away from river and enter the rural surroundings where you can ride among rice paddies and fruit plantations before finishing the first part of the journey back on the banks of the river at Ban Bua Thong while heading over to Koh Kret
Koh Kret is a tiny island in the Chao Phraya River, accessible only by boat. On it live a community of craftsmen famous for their distinctive style of pottery which dates back many centuries. Koh Kret pots are known for their fine, red-black glazed surface and intricate design. The islanders are the descendants of the Mon people, and they have managed to retain the skills of their forefathers.
Pass the pottery village and visit the island's Ancient Mon Pottery Center, Wat Paramai Yikawat or Wat Mon, which contains a Mon styled marble Buddha. The beautiful thing about riding on Koh Kret is that there are no cars allowed on the island so you have the road to yourselves. Finish the tour by having a great Thai lunch overlooking the river.
After an excellent lunch, head back toyour motorized transportation and your dedicated driver, who will bring you back to your hotel in Bangkok in comfort. The arrival is scheduled for around 15:00 (depending on traffic).
