What to Expect
See the sights in and surrounding Bangkok on a 3-day tour that covers some best parts of the Thai capital and takes you to outside provinces surrounding the region. On this tour you will have an up-close look at recent Thai history, with visits to cemeteries, museums, and monuments from World War II. You will also step back in time a handful of centuries when you tour the grounds of ancient temples in Ayuthaya.
Then enjoy a taste of modern and present-day culture as well. Eat local food specialties, spend time at the daily floating market, go for a cruise down the river, and take time to chat with Thai people in the cities and monks at the temples. In the evenings, spend time chatting with other travelers at your accommodations or take time to explore the surrounding neighborhoods.
Day 1: Bangkok – Damnoen Saduak – Kanchanaburi (Meals: L)
After early morning pick-up from your hotel in Bangkok, depart for the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, a traditional daily market in Bangkok. Continue to Kanchanaburi Province to visit the Allied War Cemetery and JEATH War Museum, which is a replication of a prisoner of war camp containing photographic memorabilia. Board a train to take a ride on the Death Railway along the original wooden viaducts, and after lunch at a local restaurant, visit Wat Pa Luang Ta. Accommodation at Pung Waan Resort or similar.
Day 2: Kanchanaburi – Ayuthaya (Meals: B, L)
After breakfast, visit the Hellfire Pass Memorial, a part of the Death Railway cut through the stone mountain during World War II. There are walking trails and also a museum dedicated to all Allied prisoners of war and Asian laborers who suffered and died at Hellfire Pass and elsewhere in the Asia Pacific region during WW II. Continue to Ayuthaya via Suphan Buri, admiring the scenery near the Burmese border, an area dominated by fertile farmland and jungle-clad mountains. Eat lunch at a local restaurant on the way before arrival in Ayuthaya and time at leisure for own exploring. Accommodation at Krungsri River Hotel or similar.
Day 3: Ayuthaya – Bang Pa In – Cruise to Bangkok (Meals: B, L)
Visit the famous temples in Ayuthaya, such as Wat Srisanpetch, Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, and Wat Chai Watthanaram. Proceed to Bang Pa In, the former summer residence of the kings of Ayuthaya built in the 18th century. Later board a luxury cruise for lunch and a leisure ride down the fabled Chao Phraya River to Bangkok. Arrive in Bangkok at 17:00 and transfer to hotel in Bangkok.
