Take advantage of a special seasonal dive adventure in Bali. Betwee late July and mid-November, you will have the opportunity to go for 3 dives at Nusa Penida Manta Point to discover Mola Mola, the weird and wonderful pelagic visitors in Bali's waters.
What to Expect
Spend one of your days in Bali participating in an advanced diving excursion with the opportunity for 3 separate dives at Nusa Penida, Manta Point, and Crystal Bay.
After meeting at your hotel in South Bali, you will transfer to Padangbai where your offshore excursion begins. Head first to Nusa Penida, a 10.5 mile (17 kilometer) long island, and the largest of 3 islands lying off Bali’s east coast. This location offers drift-diving in mild to strong currents. The water is cold but often startlingly clear, with gorgeous corals, prolific fishes, some turtles, reef sharks and, from July to mid-November, the weird and wonderful ocean sunfish.
Head next to Manta Point, an area of coastline featuring dramatic limestone cliffs that descend straight into the ocean. The swell can be stupendous, sometimes making entry impossible by mid-morning, which is why earlier is better. There is a sandy bottom and the water is particularly cold. In addition to manta ray, you may also see other pelagics such as tuna and tiger mackerel.
Move on to Crystal Bay, where you will head for inland shelter and then descend directly down to the reef. This hard coral reef has a white sand base covered with anemones and soft corals. The marine life includes angelfish, sweetlips, giant frog fish, and more.
Follow the north side of the bay around to the Bat Cave. Depending on conditions, you can enter from underwater and surface inside the cave (which is open to the sky) where bats sleep overhead; big waves may crash in through the top. Occasionally 2 small reef sharks are in the cave, but they will likely leave when you arrive! Continue along the wall to find the hard corals that serve as home to lobster.
