Glide to the top of picturesque Mount Victoria for fantastic views over Auckland on this city Segway tour. Learn about the city's history from your guide as you pass along the Hanging Tree and the Invisible Gun on your way to the mountain summit.
What to Expect
Meet your guide at Magic Broomstick Tours Shop 9 halfway through the Devonport Ferry Terminal, and get your Segway tour started with a ride to the top of Mount Victoria.
Coming around the top bend you'll be amazed by the awesome view of Auckland, with the Sky Tower at its centre, the Auckland War Memorial Museum in the distance, and the Harbour Bridge to the west.
On the way, your guide will share stories about Elizabeth House, the Wrenery, the site of "The Hanging Tree", and the Devonport Yacht Club, officially founded in 1905. At Duders Bay, the original hub of Devonport and the spot where the controversial Masonic Tavern still stands, head North on Chruch Street, the area's original main road. At the summit of Mount Victoria, take in the splendid 360-degree view.
Look down on the large expanse of land that was reclaimed in the 1870s, which now forms the Waitemata Golf Club. Mount Victoria is also home to the Disappearing Gun, hauled up the side of the mountain in the late 1880s to defend Auckland City from the suspected Russian Invasion.
Stop to take a look at the topographical map at the summit. It's a great way to get your bearings and see why Auckland is known as the City of Sails. Discover the locations of all the area's bays and beaches that form the Hauraki Gulf, before heading down and back through the village, taking plenty of photos along the way from your Segway.
