What to Expect
Experience the astonishingly abundant wildlife of the beautiful Hauraki Gulf Marine Park on this 4.5-hour marine eco-safari. With guaranteed whale and dolphin viewing year-round, it’s the perfect complement to your stay in Auckland.

The safari combines up-close and personal viewing of whales, dolphins and sea-birds with important Marine Biology research conducted on-board. Allowing the general public the chance to encounter, understand and above-all help protect this incredible resource of marine life.

Conveniently located right in the middle of Auckland City, jump on board the 65ft luxury catamaran the 'Dolphin Explorer' and take in the sights and sounds of Auckland from the water as you leave the Auckland viaduct.  Bask in the sun on their large open deck while you enjoy a quick tour past other impressive Auckland landmarks (Auckland Harbour Bridge, North Head/Devonport and Rangitoto Island), all while keeping a close eye out for Orca and Bottlenose Dolphins which are known to regularly visit the waters close in to the city. Then it's out into the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park itself where resident populations of Bryde's Whales, Common Dolphins and numerous colorful Seabirds await.

Due to being a registered research vessel the 'Dolphin Explorer' is able to get much closer than whale watching operations in other locations, which makes for a far more personal and interactive experience. More than just simply viewing them, the trip also provides the opportunity to learn about what you are seeing via expert commentary from the ship's Skipper - gained from 15 years running daily trips in the area.

Being wild animals in their natural environment, every trip is different. However typically after 3+ hours the boat will begin to head back towards Auckland. Then it's back into the Viaduct Harbour with a cheery wave and the best wishes from the 'Dolphin Explorer' crew.
