What to Expect
The New Acropolis Museum, arguably the most important archaeological museum in Athens, ranks among the most important museums of the world.
It is now houses nearly 4000 objects, all surviving treasures discovered on the Acropolis or its slopes.
The Museum contains a huge variety of artifacts, including pieces demonstrating everyday life of Athenians, stunning statues from the archaic period, and the architectural remains of the Parthenon Hall, it is truly an amazing collection.
The building itself is constructed on pillars over the top of the architectural remains of Makrygianni, a site containing the archaeological remains of Greek, Roman and Byzantine Athens.
The site is still under excavation and throughout the museum there are areas of glass flooring, allowing you to peer down into the ground from which these amazing artifacts were recovered.
