What to Expect
Lose yourself in the ancient cities and sites of Turkey. On this one day historical tour you will visit the ancient cities of Aspendos, Perge and Side, as well as the beautiful Kursunlu Waterfalls.

After your hotel pick-up at 08:00 you will be whisked away to Aspendos, which is best known for its immaculately preserved theatre. Designed by the architect Xenon and built in 2nd century AD, it holds up to 15,000 people and is still used today for performances. While you are there visit the theatre’s museum and view the ancient masks and clay tickets. Also in Aspendos you will have the chance to see what remains of the city’s basilica, agora, aqueducts and acropolis, which offers an panoramic view of the city and river.

Next stop: Perge. Located on the Asko (Kistros) river, Perge was settled by the Hittites in year 1,500 BC and soon became a thriving port. St. Paul visited the city in 46 AD and preached his first sermon. While you are here you will visit the ancient city’s remains including the theatre and stadium, both designed to hold up to 12,000 people, as well as Perge’s first church that is surrounded by Corinthian columns, basilica, Roman bath and Hellenistic gates.

The final city you will visit is Side, which is on a narrow peninsula, thus making it an important port in ancient Turkey. Today, it is better known as a popular resort destination. Established in 7th century AD, it was an essential trade colony and internally independent. It was eventually conquered by Alexander the Great.

Finally, your last stop will be the tranquil Kursunlu Waterfalls. A mere 20 minutes from Antalya, the breathtaking waterfalls and countryside surrounding them are an oasis from the busy city. Fed by the tributaries of the Akso River, the falls are reduced to a trickle in the summer months.

Whether or not you are a history fan, the dramatic sites to be seen and stories to be heard on this make this tour of ancient Turkey a must-do.
