Cambodia is the country we recommend for honeymooners who want to experience a rich and romantic mix of ancient culture, city life and beach, all wrapped up in an exotic, low-key and friendly destination.
What to Expect
DAY 1: Arrive Siem Reap
Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to the hotel for check in. Early check in is subject to availability. In the afternoon, start exploring the stunning temples by a fun tuk-tuk ride to the intricately carved Khmer ruins at Angkor Wat, one of the world’s most impressive temple ruins constructed between 9th and 13th centuries. The temple still owns hundreds of fine carvings of Apsara and Hindu mythology. Get an overview of the Khmer history, culture, archeology and civilization from the renowned Khmer scholar Chea Bunat who used to teach Cambodian history and archeology in a senior high school. He now works with Angkor Temple Conservations Institution. Take a stroll through the elaborate carved halls of Angkor Wat as the Khmer empire is brought by to life through the scholar’s knowledge. See the ancient complex at sunset – when it remains at its enigmatic best. To end this eye-opening first visit to the complex of Angkor we rise 200 meters by a tethered helium balloon (if weather permits) from the plains to witness sunset over the temple and jungle.

DAY 2: Siem Reap
After breakfast, enjoy a 14 minute private helicopter over the Angkor Temples complex, which will provide breathtaking views over the temples of Banyon; Angkor Wat and Bakheng, as well as the town itself. We then continue to visit the stunning royal city Angkor Thom. At first glance, it seems a shapeless mass of stone, but further scrutiny reveals enigmatic faces looking at every direction, with half-closed eyes, all looking content and serene. Continue your exploration by visiting the Elephant Terrace served as a platform from which to view his victorious returning army and the Leper King Terrace with perfect carvings winding along a narrow passage way. Return to your hotel. This afternoon, take part in a massage class at Hotel de la Paix. The ladies should enjoy being pampered as their husband is instructed by a professional masseuse for an hour as to how to perform a traditional Khmer massage. This could be a once in a lifetime moment, so enjoy it while it lasts. Tonight, you will treated to an authentic Cambodian sunset feast at Hotel de la Paix’s own countryside retreat surrounded by picturesque paddy fields, authentic stilted houses and rural scenery. You can sip on champagne and witness the sun set over Cambodia’s rural landscape. Once the sun has set, the candles are lit and a bottle of world class wine is opened. Take pleasure in a romantic Khmer barbeque dinner while your personal chef and waiter look after your every need.

DAY 3: Siem Reap
Located in the heart of Siem Reap town, Wat Damnak is a beautiful pagoda with French colonial architecture reflecting its history and a large garden filled with statues. Bring candles and incense sticks to the pagoda and participate in a private good luck blessing ceremony, performed by local monks that reside at Wat Damnak. Sit on the mat while the monks chant blessings and sprinkle holy water – a traditional way where it is believed that luck has to soak the body. Afterwards, he will tie your wrist with a sacred red thread which will protect you from any evil spirits and bring good fortune to your married life. Before you continue on your journey, you will receive a small keepsake from the monks. If you ever had great affinity with horses, this is your chance to combine your passion with exploring lost temples and authentic Cambodian rural life on the back of a horse. The Happy Ranch is a well established institution where a total of 29 horses are well taken care of. Arrive at the ranch and learn more about how the horses are kept, bred and fed. Explore the 10 acres of land that make up for the ranch before climbing on the back for a ride through Cambodia’s rural scenery. Riding through paddy fields, visiting authentic places and observing traditional customs makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. Several rides are available varying from a 30 minute trial ride at the ranch to a half day ride visiting crafts villages, pagodas and ancient temples. An experienced Cambodian or foreign instructor will join you all the way. If riding is not for you, horse carts are also available.
