What You'll Do
  • Take a tour that is fully flexible for your experience level: beginner to advanced amateur or pro
  • See some intricate and anceint temples away from the tourist crowds
  • Benefit from a local Khmer guide who will share historical and cultural information
  • Enjoy a 1-hour Image review or image editing session using Photoshop or Lightroom
  • Use a tripod and some specialist lenses (Canon or Nikon only) while on tour
Enjoy a day out at the temples with Dave or Elliot, who will give you an artistic insight into Angkor as experienced digital photographers. The primary focus will be on location, subject, and composition.
What to Expect
On your full-day photo tour, you will be accompanied by UK photographer Dave Perkes, or Elliot Leuthold from USA. They will serve as a photo guide to your trip and will assist anyone from a beginner to a pro with tips and techniques on how to take memorable and lasting photos.

The day will start at 07:00 (with sunrise option) to gain the best of the morning light. It is very flexible and informal and intended to be an introduction or revision to photo techniques you may have learned in the past.

The locations visited include: Angkor Wat, Thom, Bayon, Baphuon, Elephants and Leper King Terraces. The itinerary will depend on weather conditions and personal preferences. Some people have visited Angkor before, so the trip may altered to suit your preferences.

The locations are selected to give a balanced view of the temples to try out different photo techniques. This list is not set in stone, so you may visit various different sites. You will have a long break at the middle to the day for lunch and an opportunity to review images during an editing session with the photographer. In the afternoon, continue your photography tour while making the best of the afternoon light. You will return to Siem Reap after sunset.

The tour will cover:

Subject: what to include and things to avoid
Seeing: how to look into a subject and choose details to make an interesting photo
Composition: the rules and how to enhance a shot by framing and positioning of the subject
Backgrounds: the importance of what is behind the subject
Exposure control: how to use the camera to get the best out of the sometimes‐difficult light in the area
Lenses: using the best tool for the job
Focusing: the importance of depth of field and how to use it
Camera Controls: Mode dials, ISO Settings, and white balance
Image Stabilization: What it does and its limitations
Basic Editing: a brief introduction to photo editing (optional)
Analysis: looking at shots to see where they can be improved
