What to Expect
Enjoy a comprehensive 5-day tour of the mysterious temple complexes of the Khmer Empire on a trip to Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Ta Som, and more. Glide the impressive flooded forest of Tonle Sap by boat to visit a floating village, watch a traditional Cambodian Apsara Dance Show, and see Khmer craftsmen at work following old traditions.

Day 1: Angkor Thom - Angkor Wat
Following a pick-up from Siem Reap Airport, transfer to your hotel before the start of your first day’s tour. Once you have settled in, your guide will take you on the Small Circuit of Angkor Thom to see the Bayon Temple, and the Hindu temple of Phimeanakas. Discover where the Angkor rulers watched their returning armies from the Terrace of the Elephants.

After lunch, explore the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat, built by King Suryavarman II in honor of the god Vishnu. Hidden among thick jungle and fig trees, it’s the most impressive of all the Khmer temples, and was the site of the former Khmer capital. Return to Siem Reap for dinner, and watch a traditional Apsara Dance Show of Cambodian myths.

Day 2: Banteay Srei Temple - Ta Prohm - Kampong Phluk
Today starts with a tour of the Banteay Srei Temple, built largely of a hard red sandstone that can be carved like wood. Brick and literate were used for the enclosure walls and some structural elements, and the temple is especially remarkable for the beauty of its lintels and pediments. Drive back to the temple of Ta Prohm, instantly recognizable as the location site from the blockbuster movie “Tomb Raider.”

In the afternoon you will transfer to Kampong Phluk, and sail to the most atmospheric floating village in Siem Reap. Learn about everyday life on Tonle Sap Lake as you glide through the flooded forest. Watch a magical sunset, before you transfer back to Siem Reap.

Day 3: Preah Khan - Neak Pean - Ta Som - East Mebon
Today you will visit the sanctuary of Preah Khan, built on the site of Jayavarman VII's victory over the invading Chams in 1191. Largely unrestored, the complex has been left to the mercy of the jungle, creating Angkor’s unique atmosphere. You will also see the island temple of Neak Pean (The Entwined Serpents), and the small temple of Ta Som, where the eastern outer gopura (entrance) has been overgrown by a sacred fig tree.

Admire the guardian elephant sculpture of the 10th-century East Mebon, built on an artificial island at the center of the now dry East Baray reservoir, and go to the temple mountain of Pre Rup, believed to have been used for funerals. Return to Siem Reap for an evening tour of the Night Market, and enjoy dinner in the city’s most popular entertainment district.

Day 4: Beng Mealea
Today you will explore the temple of Beng Mealea, constructed under the same king that built Angkor Wat. Beng Melea preceded Angkor Wat and may even have served as its prototype. Although there are dome lintels and door carvings, there are no bas-reliefs, and the carvings are comparatively sparse. But in its time, Beng Melea was at the crossroads of several major highways that ran to Angkor, Koh Ker, and Preah Vihear. It was thought to boast walls covered in frescoes, and provides an ultimate Indiana Jones experience in the thick tangles of jungle. In the afternoon, take a tour of the local villages to learn more about life in this remarkable region.

Day 5: Artisans of Angkor - Butterfly Farm
Your trip ends with a visit to Artisan D’Angkor to admire high quality wooden marble and stone statues, as well as the unique silk products of the Khmer. Proportions, design, texture, and motifs are all followed meticulously in order to express the sensitivity, and vigor of the original models, while expressing the talent of today's young Khmer craftsmen.

After lunch at the Butterfly Garden in Siem Reap, end your tour with a trip through the countryside to enjoy the fresh air and learn more about the everyday life of the local farmers.
