What You'll Do
  • Enjoy a private tour by luxury car with an expert local guide
  • Admire the Hilversum Town Hall, a masterpiece by Dudok
  • See Holland’s most complete star fortress in Naarden
  • Eat herring Dutch style in the traditional town of Spakenburg
On this private day tour you’ll visit some of Holland’s hidden gems in an area known as the Garden of Amsterdam. You'll drive through a variety of Dutch landscapes and to alternative, less-visited sights and villages. Enjoy some traditional Dutch treats.
What to Expect
Your full-day private tour that’s priced for up to 4 persons begins with a visit to the Hilversum Town Hall, designed by Willem Marinus Dudok and completed in 1931. This much-admired building is consid-ered the finest example of Dudok’s work and internationally recognized as one of the most influential buildings of its time.

Continue on to ‘s-Graveland, a village that was a popular resort town in the 17th century, where wealthy merchants from Amsterdam built their mansions. The most important of these homes is De Trompenburgh, built for Admiral Maarten Tromp, a Dutch naval hero. The house is almost entirely sur-rounded by water and was designed to resemble a ship, complete with decks and railings.

Next on the itinerary is Naarden, where you’ll see an example of a star fort, complete with fortified walls and a moat. The moat and walls have been completely restored, and in the museum you can ex-perience how the soldiers protected the area around Amsterdam from enemies.

Situated just outside Hilversum are the villages of Laren and Blaricum. At one time poor farming villag-es, they are now among the most affluent in the Netherlands. Nationally, Laren is well known as a late 20th-century art colony. This is the perfect place to stop for lunch, and try a real Dutch treat called pof-fertjes.

Head to Spakenburg, a former fishing village that was once located on the Zuiderzee, and now one of the few places in the Netherlands where some of the local women still wear local traditional/folk cos-tume. The town’s economy is still based on fish, and it’s the perfect opportunity to try herring in the Dutch style, meaning raw with onions!

The final stop on the tour is in Lage Vuursche, a hamlet situated to the northeast of Utrecht that’s home to Princess Beatrix, the former Dutch queen. The area is known for its forests and provides a scenic route back to your starting point.
