Enjoy a 2-hour pancake lunch in a converted 14th-century monastery in Amsterdam, and get an insight into local life and traditions in the city. Add a touch of local flavor to your Amsterdam experience, and experience the delights of “pannekoeken.”
What to Expect
Add a touch of authenticity and local flavor to your experience in Amsterdam by enjoying a meal in a local home. Join your host David de Slingeraar for a 2-hour pancake lunch in the Karthuizerhof, a 14th-century monastery that now exists as 20th-century subsidized housing and open garden space in central Amsterdam.
Learn how the Dutch base their meals on what they call “The Trinity” - 2 veggies and a meat. David will teach you about these traditions in Dutch cuisine as you enjoy a classic meal of pannekoeken. The aim is to let you experience life exactly how it is in the city. Hang out in the kitchen, and swap stories about your life experiences and the affairs of the day as you partake in this unique experience that will get you up-close-and-personal with local tradition.
You are welcome to chip in as much, or as little, as you like with the food preparations. Whether you would like to help out with the chopping or you are curious about the recipe behind the meal; David will be on hand to show you the ropes. Once everything is ready, break bread and enjoy an authentic Dutch meal together.
