What people are saying about Amsterdam
Very practical. The GVB service store stays right in front of the Amsterdam Centraal, across the street. You can get maps there for free too. I got there with the voucher, they scanned and gave me the transport card valid for 24hours counting from the first used time. Attention, cause this ticket doesn't allow you to take trains, only metro and buses, but it's explained by the GVB employee. For instance, I needed to go from Amsterdam Central station to Amsterdam Sloterdijk. With the train, it would take me 5min to get there, but since my card didn't cover trains, only metros, I had to take a metro that took 1 hour to arrive there. I could have bought the train ticket... it would be around €2,40, but since I had the card and had time to spare, I took the metro. Besides all of that, you can have a good experience in Amsterdam with this card and I surely recommend it if you do not need to use trains because of a short time trip.
Me and my girlfriend went to Amsterdam in the last week of October for a few days and got the Amsterdam card for 2 days of the trip and we managed to get so much done! We went to the ARTIS Zoo, Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Moco museum and went on a canal cruise. We also went to the Body Worlds exhibition. The card is definitely value for money and I just wish I'd have got an extra day on it to do more things. Amsterdam is amazing and the I Amsterdam City Card is 100% worth getting!
The public transport system is great, no delays and the 3-day tickets were much cheaper than they would've been elsewhere! But it was annoying that we had to walk to one of only 4 GVB-offices in Amsterdam to activate our tickets, since it was quite a walk. I think you can also buy those 3 day tickets on ticket machines at any train station.
I booked 48 hr card. Easy to book museums and canal cruise online, used the 24 hr bike rental included which you can start at anytime within the card time so I walked around for 2 days and used the bike rental on the 3rd day before 11 am when the card expired. It was good value if you are doing a few things
If you are planning on visiting many place in Amsterdam and move relatively alot with Transportation...this card is very very useful. Only the NS train service is not inclused in the card (Stand: 12.10.2020)
