Visit two of the most spectacular sites of the Holy Land on this a half-day trip from Amman. View stunning mosaic art in Madaba and pay a visit to Mt. Nebo, Jordan's most revered holy site.
What to Expect
Just south of Amman, along the 5,000-year-old Kings' Highway, are some of the most memorable sites in the Holy Land. This half-day tour takes you to two of this area's most spectacular and sacred highlights: Madaba and Mt. Nebo.
After passing through a string of ancient sites, we first visit the city of Madaba. Here you will visit the Greek Orthodox Basilica of St. George and view its famous 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land. With two million pieces of local, colored stone, the map depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns in Palestine and the Nile Delta. Orientated as though the viewer were flying above the Mediterranean coast, this mosaic is said to be the oldest surviving representation of the Holy Land.
Nearby is the most revered holy site in Jordan - Mt. Nebo. According to the Old Testament, it was from here that Moses bade farewell to the tribes of Israel before they crossed the Jordan River. Tradition has it that Moses was buried on this mountain, although the exact location has never been confirmed.
