Some arrive in the autumn and others are born here in the spring. Meet and feed these magnificent animals and get to know them through experienced guides. Join this tour and get in on the excitement of hunting for Northern Lights in the beautiful landscapes of the Alta Fjord. Meet your experienced guides who can show you how to best spot the Northern Lights. This tour comes with an 80-90% chance of seeing this spectacular natural phenomenon. Each of our Northern Lights tours is different, as we focus on finding the optimal place with the greatest chance of seeing the lights. We therefore sometimes have to drive quite far to find them, while sometimes we find them in the surrounding area. Necessary driving distance decide whether we establish a camp with a fire, or whether we serve hot chocolate and snacks (alternative to vegans, etc.) at one of our short stops. While enjoying the great outdoors and waiting for the green lady, we will share with you local stories about Norwegian way of living and the local history from the Stone Age, Sami culture, reindeer-herding, wildlife, Second World War and the modern society in Alta and Finnmark. We are normally back in Alta Center just over midnight.

The highlight of any trip above the arctic circle: experiencing the magical northern lights dance across the sky. The mystery of light has given us many myths and legends over the years. Everything from heroes who lit up the sky to mysterious fire foxes and warnings of danger. The dry and stable climate in Alta provides the best conditions for seeing the Northern Lights. On this trip we combine the excitement of snowmobiling with experiencing the northern lights dancing across the sky. We take you along the old postal road up to the very edge of Finnmarksvidda to a mountain range called Beskardes. Far away from the lights of the city this trip provides the ideal conditions to see the northern lights in a beautiful winter landscape. If we are lucky we will get to see the magnificent northern lights dancing across the sky on our trip, or be treated with a beautiful arctic night sky. No previous experience is required to drive a snowmobile. All you need is a regular driver’s license, and it’s as simple as it is fun. A thorough safety introduction and driving instruction will be given before the trip starts. You will ride in pairs, a driver and a passenger on each snowmobile, with the opportunity to change seats during the trip. The Tour 17:55 Meet us at our Æverntyr Adventure Store in the city center 5-10 minutes before the start of the Tour. From here we will drive you to Gargia Valley, approx. 25km from Alta. 18:30 We arrive at Gargia Lodge. Here you will meet your guide and get a briefing about today’s trip. You will also receive thermosuits, boots and gloves for the trip. 19:00 After getting dressed you will receive a safety briefing on the snowmobiles. Now we are ready and can start our adventure. 20:00 We will arrive at Beskades. Here we will take a short stop and enjoy the amazing view in all directions before heading back down to Gargia Lodge. 21:15 We arrive back at Gargia Lodge. 22:00 We will drop you off in the city center where we started our trip.

The huskies will lead you from the pine forest near the mountain lodge up to the stunning Finnmarksvidda plateau, with its vast open landscapes. Feel the synergy between our enthusiastic huskies and yourselves, and embrace the crisp Arctic winter. After approximately 60 minutes outdoors, retreat to the historic Gargia mountain lodge. Here you can warm up with hot coffee and tea. Our guides will share insights about dog sledding and local history. We and our furry companions warmly welcome you to this unforgettable adventure!

Enjoy the anticipation of encountering these majestic creatures, guided by your captain's expertise in navigating the fjord and locating marine life. As the seasons shift between November and February, local waters come alive with the arrival of migrating herring, signaling the presence of magnificent orcas and humpback whales. Step onto a comfortable vessel, the Sea Runner, equipped with modern amenities, including a toilet, screens for presentations, and WiFi access, ensuring a truly enjoyable experience for all guests. As you board, breathe in the refreshing sea breeze and take in the breathtaking scenery, including the serene fjord, snow-covered mountains, and the enchanting winter sky. However, as these magnificent creatures roam wild and free, sightings cannot be guaranteed. Safety is our top priority, which is why we provide life jackets onboard for guests who may feel more comfortable wearing them. Additionally, our vessel features a railing for added security. While we strive to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all, please note that during periods of high speed, it may not be possible to walk outside. However, we do ensure that there are ample opportunities to slow down and enjoy the scenery, allowing guests to safely step outside and take in the breathtaking views. Please dress warmly to combat the cold weather and layer up according to the conditions. Feel free to bring backpacks for your belongings, and don't forget to bring along your camera for capturing the experience. This activity is suitable for everyone, including small children. Passengers need to be able to walk a few steps.

Alta is known for multitudes, and its diverse environment ranks at the top of the list, closely followed by the calm aura that envelops the region. This adventure cruise by Icecube of Aurora takes you to the best locations in Alta Fjord, allowing you to go bird watching, as well as witness flora and fauna in their natural habitat. While cruising through the water, the captain will tell you all about Alta's rich history, including 'Tirpitz,' the German warship, the English ore mines, and the Northern Lights Observatory. Time flies as you listen to these fascinating stories. This tour will also take you to unique places where you can see beautiful birds. If you're interested in bird watching, you'll spot various birds on the cruise, including storm swallows, seagulls, cormorants, and the mighty sea eagle, to name a few. While the boat travels in Alta Fjord, you might also occasionally catch sight of porpoises.

In winter, whales come to the herring-rich fjords in northern Norway to hunt. This is a unique opportunity to experience the whales up close while exploring the beautiful Fjords of northern Norway. You will get to enjoy the beautiful winter skies, while surrounded by mountains and the fjords wildlife. We adjust the start point of this trip to where the whales have last been seen to maximize your chance of seeing them. This can mean that we first have to drive for up to 1 hour to get to our harbor. Once on the boat we will make our way out into the fjords to look for humpback whales and Orcas. We will keep a safe distance and turn off our boat engines to minimize the disturbance to the whales. The whales are just as curious about visitors as we are about them, so they will most likely come and swim around our boat. Please note that while we try our best, we can not guarantee that we will actually see whales on the trip. The season start and end date can be adjusted according to whale migration patterns. We conduct this tour in small groups of maximum 12 participants only to ensure a great and personal experience for all of our guests.

Our approach sets aside the comforts of resorts in favor of a more authentic experience, in close contact with the cold and hostile Arctic environment. Don't worry: we will provide you with everything you need to face the extreme temperatures safely. Years of field experience allow us to spot the Auroras even on the most challenging nights. Admiring the legendary Northern Lights is not as simple as one might think. They are often difficult to see, or the view is obscured by bad weather. You won't have to worry about any of this during our tours: with us, you will maximize your chances of seeing them. Additionally, we are professional photographers specializing in night photography, so we can ensure that the photos you take home will be absolutely incredible.

Finnmark is home to the vast Finnmarksvidda, Europe’s largest mountain plateau. With vast views in all directions, Finnmarksvidda is the ideal location to be explored by snowmobile. On this trip, we take you outside of Alta to our historic, 150-year-old mountain lodge in Gargia Valley. After preparing you for the adventurous ride ahead we take you along the old postal road up to the very edge of Finnmarksvidda to a mountain range called Beskades. Through snow-covered forests, we make our way up to the expansive mountain plains. Here you can embrace the true arctic wilderness, surrounded by only snow and the sky in all directions. You will learn about our history and the lifestyle of the Arctic, while also getting to experience Finnmarks culinary side with locally made snacks. Our certified Guide will show you how to drive the snowmobile and make sure you have an adventure to remember. No previous experience is required to drive a snowmobile.
