On this guided bicycle tour of Vilamoura and Quarteira you’ll experience the historic side of the area as well as its modern resort side. See remnants of Roman times, pass by a popular fish and fruit market, and admire the Quarteira boardwalk.
What to Expect
With Roman origins dating to the first Century, Vilamoura is an area rich in history. It was later occupied by Arabs, whose influence can still be seen as you ride through the city on this 3-hour guided bicycle tour.
Ride by some of the many amenities the city offers visitors, including the marina, bars, restaurants, quality hotels, leisure facilities, casinos, and beautiful beaches.
Your guide will show you the Cerro da Vila Museum, where you’ll find remnants of the Roman occupation.
Your ride continues, crossing the Vilamoura marina, and on to Quarteira. Enjoy the smell of the sea, the breeze on you the face, and feeling of freedom that cycling gives you. As you arrive in Quarteira, you'll pass the fruit and fish market, popular with locals and visitors.
The parish of Quarteira was established in 1916 and is known primarily today for fishing and for its beaches.
After passing the markets you’ll cross the second-longest boardwalk in Europe, made of Portuguese cobblestone. At the end of the Quarteira boardwalk, there will be a short rest stop.
Return to inner Quarteira to visit the Old Village. This is a kind of miniature Portugal, where everything is replicated on a small scale. Continue your ride along cobblestone roads admiring the 19th-century Portuguese architecture, well-groomed gardens, and equally well-groomed golf courses.
