Full description
Benefit from pick-up at your accommodation and drive into the mountains of the Algarve to discover the lovely landscapes and typical villages of a region settled by the Moors in the 8th century. Stop at the ancient fortifications of the Castle of Paderne and marvel at the fruit plantations and deep valleys as you pass through small villages frozen in time. See orange, lemon, fig, almond, watermelon, nut, apple and peach trees growing in the wild. Arrive in Alte and get some free time to explore the narrow streets and handicraft shops of the village on your own. Go for a swim in the crystal clear waters of a natural spring, and then continue higher into the mountains to discover where the best cork trees grow. Enjoy lunch with local wines at a rural restaurant, and admire the windmills where the essential wheat flour was produced. Get panoramic views from the Rocha da Pena viewpoint, and learn more about how the locals live as you sample some of their traditional fire water and local honey, depending on the season.

We enjoyed a pleasant day out with an excellent lunch. Fortunately too are traveling companions were fun and spoke English, like us, as their first language. The actual sites are fairly minor ones but it did give us the chance to see inland a bit so overall it was a nice change.

We both had a great time & Lluis was an excellent & educated guide and driving was fun also. I recommend this tour but we were also lucky as it was in Jan and a bit cold and windy so we were the only ones but we had a personal tour! may be a lot different in high summer so Winter or Spring may be next for couples & families. Meal was Ok but glass of wine and coffee were included favourite was the great views on the hill tops and the farm wish we could of lingered longer there.

Fabulous day!

We were picked up just after 9am by Luis and shared our jeep with a lovely lady and her daughter. During the day we tasted firewater and honey (and bought both!), smelled lovely herbs, tried carob cake, learned about cork whilst getting to hug a cork tree, went off road and had some great viewpoints up in the mountains, visited a spring, had a lovely traditional lunch and visited a 12th century castle. A brilliant day with a fabulous guide. Would definitely recommend!
