Enjoy an air conditioned shore excursion and day-trip from Alexandria to Cairo with a private English Egyptologist tour guide! Visit the Salah El Dein Citadel and the Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque, followed by some of the oldest churches in Old Cairo.
What to Expect
After being picked up from Port Alexandria, the 2.5-hour journey towards Cairo for your shore excursion commences. You can sit back and enjoy the Egyptian landscape in an air-conditioned private vehicle.
You will encounter the historic Salah El Din Citadel (or Saladin Castle). Constructed by Salah El Din in 1183 A.D. on the Moqattam hills, the castle was once used as a fortress to defend Cairo against the armies of Crusaders.
Next, step inside the famous Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque. A Turkish architect from Istanbul called Yousif Boushnaq built this great mosque for Mohamed Ali, the former ruler of Egypt for over 45 years (1805 – 1849).
Proceed to Old Cairo, where you will discover the old remnants of old former capital cities prior to Cairo. You will visit some of the oldest churches in the region, and enjoy a little tour of the shopping Old Cairo has to offer.
Lastly, wind down and relax at the end of the day on your returning journey to Alexandria Port, where you will be dropped off.
