Full description
Explore the former palace of the Moorish kings of Muslim Spain on a guided tour of the Alcázar of Seville. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, the complex is highly regarded for its cultural and harmonic elements. Investigate these unique surroundings through the story of the legendary 11th-century monarch Muhammad ibn Abbad al-Mu'tamid and some of the characters that illuminated Spain in the early 19th century. The oldest European royal palace still in use, the Alcázar of Seville was first built by the Almohades with resplendent Islamic motifs. Subsequent occupants added elements from the Baroque, Renaissance and other eras. Enter via the imposing Puerta del León (Lion Gate) and journey through a compound of several palaces, royal chambers, courtyards and chapels. Learn about some of the many dynasties of the site, and its role in the discovery of America. Follow in the footsteps of ancient heroes, and discover why the monument was chosen as a location site for scenes in the TV series "Game of Thrones." Then, experience the beauty of the Alcázar Gardens, where almost 200 different plant species from around the world can be found.

I really enjoyed the tour. Since it was a late tour in the day (4:15pm), I would appreciate if the tour guide would inform the group when the Alcazar was closing since we were all pushed out at 5:30pm and I was not aware that we were limited on time after being in the Alcazar.

Your guide was both knowledgeable and friendly, and especially FUN!

Your guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, connecting easily with the different parties in our group (e.g. Brazilian ladies, young Scottish couple, others and myself) but you should also compliment her with her sense of fun - exceptional! This tour was memorable, your guide seemed to make this part of history alive again to our group. Thank you very much David, England.

Our guide Moraima was excellent, excellent, excellent! She was very kind and friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about the palace. We don’t usually book live tours because of crowds, but we lucked out and had only four people (including the two of us!) in our group. We learned much more on the live tour than we would have walking around ourselves. We could not have asked for a better guide. The palace itself was absolutely stunning and very rich in history. The architecture was breathtaking, definitely a must-see in Seville.
