What People Are Saying About Akaroa
Would highly recommend. We had a perfect afternoon. Stunnng scenery, beautiful boat with a friendly and informative skipper, glorious weather and plenty of dolphins, Little Blue Penguins and seals. This should be on everyone's 'must do' list. We would even like to do it again.
The trip was really cool. Captain Ray was very friendly told us a lot of interesting stories about himself, the history of the boat and Akaroa. He also gave us some "seasickness" medicine that seemed to help, since my girlfriend tends to get seasick on boats like this. It is cool that you can go on the water with so few people. (In the beginning he wanted to go with just the two of us, however, in the last minute two more women joined the trip. But its nice that he wouldn't have canceled or shifted the trip with only two people on board). We got to steer the boat on the trip, which was a lot of fun. Also, we saw a lot of hector dolphins and even (which is very rare, as he explaints) three hector dolphin babies! Ray was very knowledgeable about wildlife, but he also told one or the other story which was very silly and not entirely true but very entertaining nonetheless :) Just do it, you won't regret!
Captain Ray is very nice and funny and with lots of interesting local stories. The best part of the tour is seeing many "Mickey Mouse" dolphins playing around the sailboat, we even saw two pairs of dophin moms with their babies from distance.
We thoroughly enjoyed sailing with Capt Ray on Akaroa Harbour recently. From the first welcoming handshake, Ray made my family very welcome on this beautiful yacht and appeared to enjoy spotting the dolphins and penguins almost as much as we did! The yacht under sail, tacking across the Harbour was an experience we will treasure and was a fabulous way to celebrate a birthday. Akaroa is such a beautiful location, Ray is a superb host and the Hector dolphins with their Mickey Mouse fins were fascinating.
Activity easy to find when disembarking from a cruise ship as right on the wharf from where ship's tender drops you. Boat not luxurious but does the job of letting you experience the beauty of the bay and possibly some of its wildlife, we had a pod of small Dolphins following us.
