Visit the spectacular ruins of the Arles Amphitheatre, built in 90 AD and once capable of seating 20,000 spectators. Used for chariot races in Roman times, it still draws large crowds to concerts among its 120 arches. Visit the ruins of the Roman Theatre or the thermal baths of the Thermes of Constantin. Admire the Cryptoporticus (covered passageway), and the necropolis of the Alyscamps.
Alternatively, go to the Romanesque Cloister Saint-Trophime with its sublime portal and sculpture of the Last Judgement. Visit the Museum Réattu, where among its collections are 57 drawings by Picasso. You can also go to the sleek Museum of Ancient Arles where you will discover objects from everyday life in Roman times as well as Christian sarcophagi.
