Afar is one of the most fascinating places on earth not only for its geographical features, but also the climate and the people itself. This trip takes you to Visit the Active Volcano between the borders of Eretria and Ethiopia.
What to Expect
Day 01.
You will arrive inarrival Addis Ababa with a guide and drivers waiting for you at the Bole International Airport. Transfer to Hotel and visit the city in the afternoon. Hotel accommodation.

Day 02.
We drive to Sodore, admiring Awash River, a bath in the hot water swimming pool and lunch. We so proceed to the Awash National park. Game drives and spot many antelopes as the Orix, the Awash River and very nice falls, many birds, crocodiles and more. Camping lodge accommodation.

Day 03.
Breakfast & game drive, then drive to the Afar people and reach Semera, where we take the permits for the Danakil. Camping accommodation.

Day 04.
Visit Afar people extracting salt from Lake Afdrera. Proceed to the hot springs, where we’ll camp.

Day 05.
Drive Kosuruwad to get permission and organize camels for the materials, then drive to Dodom, at the bottom of the mountain, and trek to Erta Ale. Here are fantastic views, with the lava and the volcano rim. Camping on top of the mountain.

Day 06.
Full day at the volcano with back and forth to the camping site.

Day 07.
Visit the morning life of the people in the village, with lunch box in route. Then proceed to Ahmedale. Camping accommodation.

Day 08.
Special day on this tour as you will visit different plant than that of ours, Drive to Dalol, to see the Afar men extracting salt. Are spectacular colors of nature, unique in the world. Camping Hamdela.

Day 09.
Two days of trekking bring us more in contact with these special people. Here you will admire the camel caravans bringing the salt from Ahmedale to Tigray and nearby regions; and vice versa camels having sold their products coming back to AhmedAle & Dalol. Camping near the River.

Day 10.
Another full day trekking and discovering. Camping Berhale.

Day 11.
We arrive in Hawssen, Tigray where wefound more than 110 different churches, with different architectural and ornamental designs, from the Axumite to the Zegwe dynasty, built in such difficult places over mountains to protect the churches and monasteries from any enemy. Visit at least one church: Hotel or lodge accommodation.

Day 12.
Full day for Tigray churches in Gheralta Mountains and surrounding, early return to camp for rest. Gheralta lodge accommodation.

Day 13.
We drive to Kombolchacrossing Lake Ashandi, we proceed to Lake Hayk. Visit Debre Estifanos monastery, over an island of the lake. We proceed then to Kombolcha. Hotel accommodation in Kobmbolcha.

Day 14.
Crossing fantastic views, we reach for the afternoon Addis Ababa. If Sunday, on the way visit Afar & Oromo people market at Senbete village. Ones in Addis, short visit of the Mercato, biggest open air market in Africa. Dinner in traditional restaurant with folkloristic dances. Then departure to your respective country.
