Full description
The ancient walled city of Girona stands on a fortress-like hill, high above the confluence of the Onyar and Ter rivers. As the provincial capital, it has a long and distinguished history. Founded by Iberians, the Romans later named it Gerunda and established it as an important stopping point on the Via Augusta, linking Iberia with Rome. But the most important time for the city was the middle ages, due to its location near the french border the city was under siege several times, so its main buildings are from that time. Girona has the huge 15th century cathedral, boasting the widest unsupported gothic arch in the world which dominates the skyline. Much of the city's attraction lies in exploring the medieval streets, especially around the charming Jewish quarter. In the lower part of the city, you will enjoy spectacular images of steep alleyways and the brightly painted façades of the houses overlooking the Onyar river which provide the most emblematic image of the city.  Among the bridges that span the river are the lightweight Gómez bridge and the Ferreries Velles bridge which was designed by Gustave Eiffel in 1877. Also, if you are interested in The Game of Thrones series, the guide will show the locations where the 6th season was filmed. This extensive visit will show you the most important monuments of Girona, its history, its Jewish heritage and also its legends. Join local guides who know all the secrets of the city.

Marc did an excellent job of explaining both the history of Girona and the context of this history. In addition to showing us areas that are frequently missed by tourists his knowledge was fortified by the fact that he was born and raised in Girona and attended the university there. Following an excellent and very personalized tour, Marc was kind enough to recommend one of the most fantastic sea food restaurants that we had ever experienced. And all of this was in the historic walled area of Girona. Marc made our day magical.

Ona was one of the best guides we have had in Spain. She has a detailed knowledge of Girona's history and her English is perfect. She made the tour for us very interesting and entertaining. On top of if, she has made some suggestions for us and thanks to her we also visited Besalu and Salvador Dali's museum. She also has a very sweet personality and was a pleasure to talk to. Every minute of the tour was worth it and she made us see and feel like Girona is one of the most beautiful and exquisite cities in Spain.

Excellent tour, on a Sunday morning in October we were just 2 persons & they still decided to do the tour & we very much appreciate that! Our guide, Jerom (excuse us if we misspelt the name) was amazing: we felt like we are looking at this ancient city through his eyes. It was not a boring “look right you’re gonna see a wall, look left you’re gonna see a cathedral...” type of tour, but he made us feel like he was the town, he was the stories of the past & he was sharing it with us! He was very welcoming to any questions not only to the history of the town but in general to the way of life in the region & various “whys” & “why-nots”. The tour included not only the history but also the link to the present and you feel like you are walking it with a person who really knows every stone of it. Amazing feeing that we appreciated. I would recommend doing it on a Sunday as both the Cathedral & Archeological & Jewish museums are open & free.
