Full description
Whilst your cruise ship is berthed in Akaroa, this local 3-hour tour allows you to discover the beauty and history of Akaroa Harbour, its township, and this portion of the Banks Peninsula. Upon departing Akaroa Wharf, the tour will take you through the township before traveling by road through the inner bays of the harbor. A stop will soon be made at a cheese factory in Barry’s Bay, the only commercially operating cheese factory in the region where local cheese can be sampled. Upon leaving the cheese factory, you will begin climbing the road to the hilltop before reaching Summit Road. In these locations, you will have some truly incredible views of the entire Akaroa Harbour and the Banks Peninsula. Upon returning into Akaroa, your coach will stop at the Giant’s House, with its beautiful gardens and mosaic sculptures. There a guided tour has been arranged for your leisure, before you finally conclude back at the Akaroa Wharf. Alternatively, you can opt to finish your tour there and explore the town on foot before your ship's departure.

The whole tour was great. I don't know though whether it is worth driving all round Banks Peninsular as there really isn't a lot to see. We were very lucky in that the tour included meeting with the artist at the Giant's House and seeing the inside of her house and talking to her.
