An excellent small museum, packed with working models for a hands-on experience with Leonardo’s inventions, drawings and paintings. Mostly the working models. Children with attention problems would be overstimulated if they have trouble with stimuli. LOTS to see and absorb. The adults had a great time, too. Beautiful reconstructions and informative. An excellent adjunct to the Museum nearby. Viva Leonardo!!

The exhibits in the museum have been well-constructed and are have been designed to withstand years of pounding by little hands! The explanatory cards are informative and add to experience of the visit. I can heartily recommend a visit, if you have an hour to spare during your visit to Florence.

TL;DR - Mechanical engineering geeks and children will love this, but some may be underwhelmed. This isn't a "must see" in Florence, but it was worthwhile for us. As two adults visiting, we saw children being very engaged with the interactive portion of the exhibit and it's an excellent place to stimulate curiosity about physics and mechanics. As an engineering-minded person, I really appreciated seeing just how many different things he designed long before many of them were probably useful due to the lack of modern motors. It's fascinating to see things like ratcheting mechanisms, worm gears, and snail cams constructed of wood based on designs that were works of genius given the time period.
