Full description
Immerse yourself into a spiritual experience in the heart of Rome and get raptured by the ecstatic beauty centuries of culture were able to convey in the visual and musical sacred arts.
Visit the Capuchin Crypt and Museum and learn about S. Francis’s heritage and the history and philosophy of the Capuchin Order. Admire Caravaggio’s magnificent “St. Francis in Meditation” canvas and step inside the shocking Capuchin Crypt, decorated with the bones of 4,000 Capuchin monks.
Annexed to the Crypt is Santa Maria Immacolata, the Capuchin church of Rome, built by Pope Urbano VIII Barberini (XVII c.), only a few steps from Piazza Barberini, on Via Veneto, one of the most famous streets in Rome and remembered for being the set for the film “La dolce vita” by Federico Fellini.
Inside the Church, take your chance to see the masterpieces by Guido Reni (S. Michele Arcangelo), Domenichino, Pietro da Cortona, Gherardo delle Notti, Antonio Sacchi and others.
Conclude your soulful experience with a choral concert by the renowned Schola Romana Ensemble inside the Hall of the Capuchin Convent. The program is rare and valuable, and it alternates the archaic mysticism of Gregorian Chants - the most ancient form of Occidental music - with the best polyphony compositions by the Roman School, including masterworks by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.
All tickets include the entrance fee for the Capuchin Museum & Crypt and the Choral Concert, complete with an introduction to the musical program in English.
