Sao Miguel: Caldeiroes Canyoning Experience
- Small group
- Pickup available
- Duration options: 3 - 5 hours
After either gathering at the meeting point or being collected from your accommodation, you will make your way to Parque da Ribeira dos Caldeirões, located in the north-east part of the island. It takes around 45 minutes to drive from Ponta Delgada. The half-day tour takes approximately 3 hours. During this time you will have the possibility of doing rappels, jumps, slides and rock slides. The highest rappel will be 15 meters, with the highest jump being around 6 meters. There will be some time for the equipment distribution with the help of your guides, before you take a short hike in order to approach the stream followed by a security briefing. On average it is about a 20 to 35-minute hike, depending on the pace of the group. Throughout the full-day option you will stop for a picnic, later finishing the tour by returning back to town by car.
It was a really great experience. If I have to conclude it I would say that it's not the usual boring tourist activity. You have to repel down from the waterfall and you have to jump down from 6 meters. You should not fear to try it though because the guides are professional also kind and funny.

I am a little scared of heights and the guides were so helpful and caring that i had no problem completing the whole tour. I think the girl guide was Americas and there were 2 guys. One guide had a great sense of humor. The scenery was so beautiful and I would highly recommend it!

This was a good tour, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. It is a full itinerary. Unfortunately we did not see everything that was advertised on the website for this tour.
Get back to nature in the volcanic landscapes of Terceira Island on an approximate 2.5-hour hike along the Mistérios Negros trail. Benefit from pick-up at your hotel in Angra do Heroismo or Praia da Vitória, and then make your way to the start of the trail. Set off on a moderate level circular trek of 5 kilometers to see different landforms created by the ancient lava flows. Encounter small lakes and volcanic domes, along with the Pico Gaspar climb up a volcano that erupted 15,000 years ago. Called Mistérios Negros due to the dark lava rock surrounding the area, the area is not to be missed. Follow the trail through different vegetation, including Japanese cedar, juniper and blueberry plants. Keep a look out for the local birdlife as you fill your lungs with fresh country air.

This is the perfect tour for nature lovers. It's a hike in a trail located in the north side of Terceira Island, and it's one of the most beautiful hikes in the Island, because of the panoramic views variety. Along the trail and on your right side always ocean view and several bays, and on the same trail at the same time on your left, there're beautiful volcanic landscapes. Average takes 2:30 minutes, lenght 4km, and it's considered an easy trail.

Great day… for four people with a very nice young guide… crazy landscapes… green walks… swimming in sea water at 38 degrees…. Sunny day… (which is rather rare in the Azores even in August !!! !)… Everything is perfect except the picnic… a shame… inedible… while the food is not expensive in the Azores…. Unripe fruit with a tiny sandwich… dry… and a small brick of filthy juice… in short .. not a bottle of water .... in the description of the day we talked about a snack ... nothing other than these three tiny filthy things all day long .... too bad it ruins the price ...
I had the best guide for the trekking, it was a spectacular experience and I would like to be able to repeat it. It is a beautiful circular route, with the most beautiful end, Lagoa do Fogo.
